Local Author Extravaganza

We will be hosting our annual Local Author Extravaganza on Friday, August 16, featuring books for readers of all ages. Meet authors Judy Lannon (The Making of Genevieve), Kathleen Polaske (Cape Cod Charlie), Maria Finch Chandler (Cape Cod Cones), Taylor Tyng (Clara Pool and the Wrong Way Up), and Helen Kampion (Rollin’ on Down the Line).

Follow Charlie as he spends the day on Cape Cod bay with his parents and grandparents. Read about how Charlie befriends a hermit crab that he names "Hermie". He spends his day building a sandcastle with a moat for his new friend Hermie. Charlie's day of imaginary play ends with a valuable lesson about respecting the habitat of animals.

The number "143" is hidden on each page for an added level of engagement. The number 143 is a family code meaning "I love you". The 143 code can be traced back to 1860 at Minot's Ledge Lighthouse which is located one mile off the coast of Cohassett, MA. It still blinks the romantic code to this very day.

This Tell-All field guide walks you through every ice cream shop on Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket, all 116!, revealing the nitty gritty on each, including the history of the shop, the ice cream they serve, and all the particulars - everything from their seasonal opening and closing, hours of operation, payment options, standout flavors, menu items, seating availability, customer reviews, author's picks and more.  Through shop owner and scooper interviews and website and social media investigation, Maria Finch Chandler presents a comprehensive study on all things ice cream on and around Cape Cod.

The late summer and early fall of 1964 was a turbulent time in America. After years of racial struggle, in July President Lyndon Baines Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act. This law, declaring that all citizens were equal, outlawed racial segregation. Many Americans cheered this legislation; yet some did not. Many Southerners despised it and worried about what it meant for their traditions and way of life. With the upcoming November presidential election, President Johnson was advised not to campaign in the South due to the threats of violence since the signing of the new law. But someone needed to visit the citizens in the South and explain why the new law was necessary and good for the entire country. Born in Texas, First Lady Claudia Alta "Lady Bird" Johnson was from the South and understood its people and customs. Despite her fear of public speaking and threats to her own safety, Lady Bird undertook a train tour to reach out to her fellow citizens and Southerners. This is the true story of her historic Whistle-Stop journey, making almost fifty stops through eight Southern states in four days. July 2024 marks the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act.

Soaring to the top is one thing. Staying there is quite another. The warm and the winning second book in the engrossing middle grade adventure Clara Poole series.

Fresh off winning WOOBA's One-Hundredth Air Race, Clara Poole should be flying high, but she's feeling more uncertain than ever. After a summer of negative publicity, she arrives at Air Academy unsure if she even deserves to be there, to train as an aeronaut alongside her new friends . . . only to discover that there are several conditions to her acceptance.

But that becomes the least of her problems when a series of strange accidents throw her and her friends' safety into question. Circumstances shift from bad to worse when the school's headmaster goes missing, hurling the academy into disarray and under the iron-grip control of Assistant Head of School, Cyprian Hunt. Friends become enemies, and enemies friends as Clara tries to keep herself out of trouble. But trouble may the one thing she can't avoid.

With humor, heart, and more death-defying feats that you can imagine,Clara Poole and the Wrong Way Upis a stunning second novel that explores how the journey to get what you want is perhaps more important than the goal itself.

Genevieve Austin carries a seventy-year-old secret. Does this secret shape or harm her?

In The Making of Genevieve, we learn the complexity that is Genevieve. We navigate the tumultuous road to her golden years, beginning as a teen on the picturesque shores of Newport, Rhode Island with her best friend, Nicky.

Genevieve always strives for the best of everything-the perfect home, clothes, friends, and of course, the perfect man. For Genevieve, image is paramount. What happens when Genevieve's plans are challenged and the idyllic life she dreams of is placed in peril?

Which leaves us to ask, "Does anyone really know their mother?"
