History of The Brewster Book Store
Founders John and Nancy Landon opened The Brewster Book Store in a Spring blizzard in 1982, in one room, with 3,000 books and three customers, all family members.

Ownership transitioned from the Landon family in fall of 2021 to Jessica MacKenzie Devin and Sue O’Malley, two friends committed to carrying on Nancy Landon’s vision for the book store - that of a community-minded resource for readers of all ages and interests. Daughter and niece of the store’s original managers, Jessica’s Brewster Book Store roots run deep (she began working there at 13!) and Sue’s passion for creating community connections - making them logical stewards of the store’s next chapter. They join a team of incredibly knowledgeable booksellers who have helped make the Book Store a favorite summer and year-round destination.
Regular book signings with debut authors and current day luminaries such as Peter Reynolds, Sophie Blackall, and Elin Hilderbrand, a monthly Books & Buzz author series, and summertime appearances of popular storybook characters attract visitors from near and far alike. Peaking into the near future, the store’s next chapter will include a secret garden, gathering space for book clubs and workshops, and expanded parking.
